Picture this, a beautiful artist sitting on the floor mashing up man and nature into one beautiful piece of art. The immediate person that comes to mind in this visual for Kess is the vivaciously beautiful and talented Jaidyn Erickson! Combining animals and nature her work is inspiring and unique. From a young age Jaidyn has been perfecting her artwork! Here at Kess we are thrilled and ecstatic to have her as part of our Kess artist team.
We had the lovely fortune of having a quick Q&A with Jaidyn and hope you enjoy it!
KIH: What is your first memory as an artist?
JE: My first memory as an artist would be drawing one of my toy horses and showing it to my grandparents. They looked at it, looked at my parents, and said, 'uh oh...you've got an artist on your hands.'
KIH: What is your creative process?
JE: I love to brainstorm. When I get an idea I like to sit and think about it, make lists, and think a lot more. Then I get to sketching, do a photo shoot if needed, and work, work, work!
KIH: What was your first medium?
JE: crayons on that paper that had perforated edges running down both sides.
KIH: What is your favorite color right now?
JE: sea-foam, turquoisey, deliciousness.
KIH: What common threads do you find show up in your work?
JE: I love thinking about the duality between man and nature. I love animals and being outside so a lot of times I'll smash people and animals together. I also draw a lot of inspiration from books I read and music I like. Basically, things that make me happy eventually end up in my work. :)
KIH: Tell us about your first show?
JE: It was with an organization called RAWArtists in Boise, ID. It was great!
KIH: Where do you do most of your work?
JE: Either at my computer desk or on the floor in our spare room. Glamorous, I know.
